NextVR enables the transmission of live, long-form virtual reality content in broadcast quality – leading the way for live and on-demand VR to become a mainstream experience for sporting events, concerts, cinematic productions and more. Launched in 2009, NextVR has more than 26 patents granted or pending for the capture, compression, transmission, and display of virtual reality content. NextVR's platform allows the fully immersive content to be streamed with pristine quality using current home and mobile Internet connections. NextVR was founded by veterans in stereoscopic imaging technology, software development and an award-winning filmmaker.  

Recent Virtual Reality Broadcast Events

June 16-19, 2016: As part of its 5-year partnership with FOX Sports, NextVR will broadcast the 116th U.S. Open live in virtual reality for the 2nd consecutive year. 

  • Live 4-hole multi-camera coverage
  • Immersive views of the tee boxes and greens at Holes 9, 17 and 18
  • Roving coverage between Holes 10 and 12
  • Behind-the-scenes look at Oakmont Country Club
  • Live look-ins at Oakmont's driving range, golf tips and features on each hole

This event is FREE to attend via the NextVR portal.


Here are basic instructions on how to experience the live NextVR event:

Grab your Gear VR headset and compatible Samsung phone.

  • Dock your phone in the Gear VR headset and open Oculus Home.
  • Download and open the NextVR app. The NextVR app features a dedicated FOX Sports channel, along with NBA and International Champions Cup content and more.
  • We recommend connecting to wi-fi when watching live broadcasts.
